As an artsy and creative individual, I love interior design. I used to work in the Home Decor department at Hobby Lobby, and one of my favorite jobs was designing display tables.
The internet has formed the ability to design from the comfort of your own home. This makes the joy of interior designing accessible to those who maybe don’t have the time or are unconfident, which I why I’m a fan of companies like Spacejoy.
Spacejoy is an interior design website that has discounted shopping for individual pieces, pre-designed room sets, and designers who work with clients online. They offer packages ranging in a wide variety of styles, furniture, decor pieces, rugs, pillows, etc. There is a wealth of resources for anyone interested in designing their home.
But when I first discovered Spacejoy’s website, I noticed that their CTAs – aka calls to action – were lacking. Especially for their newsletter. There’s no clear way to sign up for it except to create an account, but there’s no CTA for that either. Creating a CTA for their newsletter where they send out emails on featured products, sales, and more is a way to keep subscribers thinking about Spacejoy. When potential shoppers see that email saying “get 35% off,” they notice that they’re suddenly in the shopping mood. They need a new rug, or hey, that accent pillow is pretty cute!
In order to get them to that stage though, we need a clear CTA for their newsletter.
A Free E-Guide
What’s not to love about free information? For newcomers, I put together a quick style guide going over the basics of each home deco theme—not only to educate readers but to get their creative juices flowing. As the conclusion of the e-guide, I added a CTA to take their style quiz. This gets readers back onto the site and primes them to shop for their chosen theme.
To create this e-guide, I used two tools. The first was Google Docs. I used this software to design it, as it has the capability to turn the document into PDF format, which is how it would be sent in an email. Currently, Spacejoy has a wealth of information posted on their blog, especially on design themes. So, I broke down their long-form posts into quick summaries that are easily consumable for readers, while attempting to write in the voice of the blog. The photos that I gathered are each linked to the shopping pages on Spacejoy’s website where they are featured.
The second tool was to design the cover image for the e-guide, which I included below. I created this in Canva.
P.S. Spacejoy, if you want to use this e-guide, please do!
Adding CTAs
Newsletter Signup
The way I would add a call to action for Spacejoy’s newsletter is by creating a pop-up modal that would appear after the visitor opens up the homepage of the website. This modal includes the ability for users to submit their email addresses on the spot. This is where the e-guide comes in. By offering the e-guide in exchange for signing up, there’s an incentive showing that the future shopper will receive value by joining- and adding the CTA informs them that the newsletter exists!
Style Quiz
Style quizzes are a prime CTA, but if no one knows it’s there, they won’t take action!
That’s why I would add a section on the home page of the website promoting the style quiz. The style quiz prompts users to create an account at the end to see their quiz results, which is an easy way to get more signups! I’d include a link to it on the hot bar so that it’s always right at hand, as well as giving it a featured CTA further down into the website. Something like this:

Next Steps?
I believe that implementing these calls-to-action on Spacejoy’s website would increase their newsletter signups. By notifying customers that Spacejoy has an awesome newsletter, and providing them with a value-driven incentive, Spacejoy could have an even greater reach with their email marketing efforts.
